The answer is that, notably from the after-market, there is still a huge demand for replacement flexible couplings, for units already in service, types 6 and 10 as well as the Uniflex models. The Bullflex elastic couplings represent the latest, state-of-the-art technology and are therefore recommended for new installations.
Bullflex
The Vetus Bullflex flexible coupling has the following advantages:
- very high flexibility
- optimum damping of vibrations
- secured against shearing off (axially and radially)
- misalignment of 2% permissable
- excellent centering of the shaft, allowing for high speed revolutions even at 2 degrees misalignment
- the shaft will remain centred even in reverse gear
- possibility to remove the centering ring
- built-in thrust damper
- non-tapered clamping hub, for perfect centering and easy assembly / disassembly

Uniflex
The Vetus Uniflex flexible coupling is a predecessor to the Bullflex and has similar features, although has a different method of connection to the shaft which may suit existing installations.

Type 6 / Type 10
The Vetus Type 6 and Type 10 flexible couplings provide a cheaper alternative to the Bullflex, but the shaft must be aligned exactly. The Type 6 fixes to the shaft by means of a through-pin and the Type 10 by means of a tapered bore and keyway.
